It has [α]²⁹_Di>4 - 245° (c 0.452, EtOH) and the ultraviolet spectrum in ethanol has absorption maxima at 222, 256 and 310 mp. with a shoulder at 320 mp.. The alkaloid is characterized as the dihydrochloride which gives colourless prisms from aqueous EtOH, decompos ing above 300°C with
