The Uses of TALBUTAL
Talbutal differs from butabarbital in that a sec-butyl radical is used in talbutal, whereas in butabarbital, an isobutyl radical can be used as a substituent on C5. Talbutal is used as a sedative, soporific drug for the same indications as butabital.

Synthesis
Talbutal, 5-allyl-5-sec-butylbarbituric acid (4.1.12), is synthesized by reacting α-allyl-α-fluorobutylmalonic ester with urea [10].
