  • Molecular Weight: 0

What is STRYCHNOSPLENDINE?

Description

This alkaloid has been obtained from Strychnos spiendens Gilg. where it occurs almost exclusively in the flowers. It yields whitish crystals from EtOH and has [α]20D - 82° (c 1.0, EtOH). The ultraviolet spectrum shows two absorption maxima occurring at 245 and 297 mil. An imino group and a tertiary hydroxyl group are present, the former giving the N-acetyl derivative which cannot be crystallized but gives an ultraviolet spectrum having absorption maxima at 252 and a shoulder at 280 mil. The structure has been determined primarily on the basis of the mass spectrum fragmentation pattern.
