Oil Red EGN is a solvent dye that does not ionize and is used to stain oils, waxes, greases, fats, hydrocarbon derivatives, polishes, and acrylic emulsions.

Preparation

O-Methylaniline diazotization, and 2,5-Dimethylbenzenamine coupling, product to diazotization, and Naphthalen-2-ol coupling.

Properties and Applications

red. Red powder. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, acetone and so on the many kinds of solvent, resistance to 5% of hydrochloric acid and sodium carbonate. In concentrated sulfuric acid to blue light green, dilution after red precipitation; 10% of the sulfuric acid insoluble; In concentrated hydrochloric acid of insoluble; In concentrated nitric acid for brown solution; In 10% sodium hydroxide solution insoluble. Used for fat, oil, wax and oil product color, also used in acrylic resin coloring.
