This peptide alkaloid occurs in the bark of Scutia buxifolia Reiss and yields colourless, slender needles from CHCl3-light petroleum or aqueous EtOH. It is strongly laevorotatory with [α]20D - 399° (c 0.15, CHCI3) and gives an ultraviolet spectrum in MeOH with absorption maxima at 252 (shoulder) and 277 mJ.1. The hydrolysis products are proline, leucine, glycine, O'-hydroxyleucine, phenylalanine and N ,N-dimethylphenylalanine. The structure has been confirmed by the mass spectrum fragmentation pattern.
