What is RAUJEMIDINE?

Description

A complex alkaloid which occurs in Rauwolfia canescens, the base is stereoisomeric with reserpine (q.v.) and forms square, colourless plates when crystallized from MeOH. It is laevorotatory having [α]25D - 88° ± 1° (CHCl3). The alkaloid may be characterized as the crystalline perchlorate, m.p. 253-7°C. The structure and stereochemistry have been deduced spectroscopically.
