Rhamnolipids function as excipients for bioavailability enhancement, solubilization or emulsification; and/or as active ingredients. Their mild and skin-friendly attributes, allow them to be used in personal care applications for skin, hair and facial care.

• Environmental remediation of hydrocarbons, heavy metals and pesticides in soil and water

Rhamnolipids adsorb to soil and solubilize hydrocarbon or other hydrophobic molecules, increasing their bioavailability and helping removal through biodegradation, washing, or collection.

• Antibacterial

Rhamnolipids exert toxicity on cell membrane permeability, and are proven effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Gram-negative bacteria P. aeruginosa, Enterobacter aerogenes, Serratia marcescens and Klebsiella pneumonia, and Gram-positive Micrococcus sp., Streptococcus sp., Staphylococcus sp. and Bacillus sp.

• Antifungal

Rhamnolipids directly lyse zoospores and they have been demonstrated effective against 23 species of fungus, and as an algicide against several common species of harmful algae bloom.
