What is ORMOJINE?

Description

This complex dimeric alkaloid, also found in Orrnosia jarnaicensis, is obtained as colourless rhombic crystals from Me2CO. It has [α]20D + 24° (c 1.46, EtOH) and,like the preceding base, the ultraviolet spectrum shows only a single, broad absorption maximum, in this instance, at 211 mJ1. A diperchlorate has been prepared, m.p. 256-7°C and an amorphous picrate, m.p. lS2.5°C.
