What is OCTALUPINE?
Description
This minor alkaloid of Lupinus sericeus var. f/exosus C. P. Smith, was first described by Couch. It has α] 25 D+ 52° (EtOH) and yields the following salts: dihydrochloride sesquihydrate, m.p. 298-9°C; [α] 25 D+ 36.3° (H20); auri_x0002_chloride, m.p. 208-9°C and the methiodide, m.p. 259°C. It is reduced electrolytically to (+ )-lupanine and (-)-sparteine.
