What is OCOPODINE?

Description

This aporphine alkaloid occurs mainly in Ocotea macropoda (H.B.K.) Mez. and forms colourless needles on recrystallization from EtOH. Like the preceding Ocotea bases, it is dextrorotatory with [α] 25 D+ 87° (c 0.82, EtOH) and the ultraviolet spectrum is very similar with absorption maxima at 223, 281 and 305 mfJ.. The structure has been deduced from the NMR and mass spectrum and confirmed by synthesis of the optically inactive form.
