Noscapine hydrochloride is a bradykinin B and tubulin inhibitor
Biological Activity
Opioid alkaloid with several actions. Binds to tubulin, arresting cells in mitosis and inducing apoptosis. Also is an antagonist at bradykinin receptors (pA 2 = 6.68), inhibits carbachol-stimulated phosphoinositol turnover and enhances forskolin-stimulated increases in cAMP levels in CNS tissues. Clinically used antitussive agent.
Safety Profile
Poison by intravenous route.Moderately toxic by ingestion and subcutaneous routes.Mutation data reported. When heated to decomposition itemits very toxic fumes of HCl and NOx.
