What is LUTEIDINE (Alkaloid L-2)?

Description

Colchicum luteum Baker yields this alkaloid which forms colourless crystals when purified by recrystallization from Me2CO. It has a specific rotation of [α]D - 90° and forms crystalline salts and derivatives including the hydrochloride, m.p. 256-8°C; methiodide, m.p. 263-5°C and the picrate as slender yellow needles, m.p.179-181°C.
