What is LOPHOPHORINE(N-Methylanhalonine)?
Description
This isoquinoline alkaloid has been isolated from the cactus Anhalonium Lewinii. In the pure form it is a colourless syrup, freely soluble in organic solvents but insoluble in H20. It is laevorotatory with [α]D - 47.0° (CHCI3) and gives a hydrochloride which crystallizes in small, colourless needles; [α]17D - 9.47° (H20) and a picrate, m.p. 162-3°C. The structure is 1:2:3:4-tetrahydro-l:2- dimethyl-6-methoxy-7: 8-methylenedioxYisoquinoline.
