What is KOPSINGINE?

Description

Kopsia singapurensis yields this alkaloid along with kopsaporine (q.v.). When recrystallized from CHC1 3-EtOH, the base forms colourless prisms. It is dextro_x0002_rotatory with [α]29D + 75° (CHC13). The methanolic solution has an ultraviolet spectrum with absorption maxima at 217, 253, 282 and 288 mμ. The alkaloid contains one methoxyl and two hydroxyl groups and forms a monoacetyl derivative which is amorphous.
