What is KARACOLIDINE (Karakolidine)?

Description

An atisine type alkaloid recently isolated from the tubers of Aconitum kara_x0002_colicum, together with Aconifine (q.v.) and Karacoline (q.v.). The structure of the alkaloid, derived from NMR and mass spectrometry, is hydroxykaracoline. Pyrolysis of the tetraacetate forms pyrokaracolidine on hydrolysis and the latter, on treatment with HCI afford isopyrokaracolidine. Kiliani oxidation of the alkaloid furnishes didehydrokaracolidine.
