What is JABORANDINE?
Description
An optically inactive alkaloid which has been isolated from Piper jaborandi, the base is freely soluble in EtOH or Et2 ° but insoluble in H20. It yields a crystal_x0002_line hydrochloride, m.p. 134°C and l54-6°C with intermediate solidification. The picrolonate has m.p. l48-9°C. On acid hydrolysis, the alkaloid gives paminobenzoic acid and an alkamine, CllH230N, a colourless liquid with b.p. 85-90°C/2.5 mm.
