This amorphous base has been isolated from Ourouparia rhyncophylla Mats. It has [α]29Db + 8.3° and yields a crystalline perchlorate, m.p. 150°C (dec.).

Isorhynchophylline is an oxindole alkaloid which has been the main active ingredient of Uncaria rhynchophylla contributing to anti-depressant like behavior in subjects.
