Halowax 1099 is used for in vitro assay on human thyroid hormone receptor β agonist and antagonist effects of individual polychlorinated naphthalenes and Halowax mixtures.

Definition

HALOWAX 1099 is a chlorinated naphthalene mixture containing 2% dichloro, 48% trichloro, 43% tetrachloro and 7% pentachloro derivatives.

General Description

Chlorinated hydrocarbons with varying chlorine content, including chlorinated naphthalenes, ranging in viscosity from a low viscosity oil to hard microcrystalline waxes.

Halogenated aliphatic compounds, such as HALOWAX 1099, are moderately or very reactive. Reactivity generally decreases with increased degree of substitution of halogen for hydrogen atoms. Materials in this group may be incompatible with strong oxidizing and reducing agents. Also, they may be incompatible with many amines, nitrides, azo/diazo compounds, alkali metals, and epoxides. HALOWAX 1099 can react vigorously with oxidizing materials.
