Description
Glyceryl monostearate is prepared by esterification of C16-C18 long-chain fatty acids with glycerol. This product is a milky white waxy solid, soluble in ethanol and ether. It is a non-ionic surfactant. It has hydrophilic and lipophilic genes and various functions such as wetting, emulsifying, and foaming.
Occurence
Glycerol monostearate occurs naturally in the body as a product of the breakdown of fats by pancreatic lipase. It is present at very low levels in certain seed oils.
The Uses of Glyceryl monostearate
Glyceryl monostearate is used in the following industries: Monoglycerides are mainly used as food additives in the food industry; In cosmetics, it is indispensable for producing cream products. It is an emulsifier and thickener in body butter, vanishing cream, hair cream, shampoo, etc. Make the paste fine and smooth; It can also be used as a thickener for pharmaceutical emulsifiers and ointments; It can be used as a lubricant and antistatic agent in plastic processing and can be used as a defoamer, dispersant, thickener, wetting agent, etc., in other aspects.
Synthesis
