The Uses of DIHYDROTERPINEOL
Dihydro-α-terpineol is used as a bronchodilator for treatment of asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory diseases. It is also a useful deodorant, food additive, and analgesic agent.
Production Methods
Dihydroterpineol can be produced:
1) by hydrogenation of alpha-Terpineol with
Platinum catalyst (this leads to a fairly
pure trans-Dihydroterpineol).
2) by heating Menthol and Terpineol with a
catalyst (this produces Menthone as a by-product).
