Indications

Becaplermin (Regranex) is a recombinant human platelet–derived growth factor (rhPDGF-BB) which is thought to enhance wound healing by stimulating granulation tissue. It is approved for the treatment of lower extremity neuropathic ulcers extending to the subcutaneous tissue in diabetic patients with an adequate blood supply. Local irritant reactions (erythema, burning, pain) occur in a minority of patients.

Clinical Use

Becaplermin, Regranex Gel, an endogenous polypeptidethat is released from cells that are involved in the healingprocess, is a recombinant human platelet–derived growthfactor (rhPDGF-BB). It is a growth factor that activates cell proliferation,differentiation, and function, and it is released from cells involvedin the healing process.Becaplermin is formulated as a gel recommended fortopical use in the treatment of ulcerations of the skin secondaryto diabetes.
