What is Barium bismuthate?
Physical properties
Barium bismuthate, BaBiO3, has a CAS number of 12785-50-1 and a molecular weight of 394.305 g/mol. It is a bronze crystal which decomposes at 1040°C.
The Uses of Barium bismuthate
Barium bismuthate has
found usage in industry in alkaline batteries. The incorporation
of small amounts (1-5 wt%) of semiconducting
BaBiO3-xand metallic Ba0.6K0.4BiO3 additives on the
rechargeability of electrolytic manganese dioxide cathodes
in alkaline cells in the one-electron regime has been
investigated.
BaBiO3 is a semiconducting material and shows
a good negative temperature coefficient (NTC) effect.
NTC thermistors are thermally sensitive resistors whose
resistance decreases with increasing temperature. They
are mainly used in electronics for the suppression of
in-rush current, for temperature measurement and
control, and for compensation for other circuit elements.
