The Uses of Anti-Type I inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate 5-phosphatase

All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org)and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry.

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. General Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a membrane-associated type I inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (InsP3) 5-phosphatase. InsP3 5-phosphatases hydrolyze Ins(1,4,5)P3, which mobilizes intracellular calcium and acts as a second messenger mediating cell responses to various stimulation. (provided by RefSeq)

Biochem/physiol Actions

INPP5A (Inositol polyphosphate-5-phosphatase) is a 43kDa membrane associated inositol (1,4,5) P3-5-phosphatase (ITPKA) localized in the dendritic spines. It is the most active member of the ITPK family with high basal specific enzyme activity. It is involved in two major activities, phosphorylation of inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate (Ins(1,4,5)P3) and regulation of actin skeleton assembly by F-actin bundling activity. It catalyzes the conversion of Ins(1,4,5)P3 to inositol (1,3,4,5) tetrakisphosphate and inositol-1,4-bisphosphate during dendritic Ca2+ signaling in hippocampal neurons. It has been suggested that loss in function of INPP5A negatively regulates inositol signaling, which may have impact on the development and progression of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) tumors.
