(3aS,5R,6R,6aR)-Tetrahydro-6-hydroxy-5-(hydroxymethyl)furo[2,3-d]oxazol-2(3H)-one can be used in the prebiotic synthesis of ribonucleotides and photo-anomerization of cytosine nucleosides and nucleotides. It is also used in the synthesis of N4-amino and N4-hydroxy derivatives of azacytidine and rearrangement of N4-amino derivative to 5-(β-D-ribofuranosylureido)-1,2,4-triazole.
