3-Hydroxytridecanoic Acid is used in the study of Lipid A, a major constituent of the lipopolysaccharides, which are responsible for the toxicity of gram negative bacteria. Also used in the synthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoates used in biodegradable thermoplastics and elastomers.
