1-(2-Hydroxy-5-methoxyphenyl)-1-propanone can be used as a new class of transient receptor potential channel TRPA1 and TRPM8 modulators.

Preparation

Preparation by Fries rearrangement of p-methoxyphenyl propionate,
with titanium tetrachloride without solvent at 120° for 1 h (74%)
with aluminium chloride in nitrobenzene at 80–100° for 2 h (41%).
