What is 1,2-Dioxane?

Colorless liquid, solidifying in the cold. M.P. 12° C. Sp.Gr. 1.04. B.P. 101° C. Hydroscopic and miscible with water.
Soluble in alcohol and oils. Very sweet, mild-ethereal odor.

The Uses of 1,2-Dioxane

Certain derivatives of 1,2-Dioxane (cyclic glycol acetals) are used in perfumes and flavors. Dioxane is slightly toxic in its effect upon the human Central Nervous System. It is also flammable and presents a fire hazard.
