Pharmacological effects
The results of in vitro and in vivo experiments have shown that corosolic acid achieves its hypoglycemic effect by stimulating glucose transport and promoting cellular uptake and utilization of glucose. The excitatory effect of corosolic acid on glucose transport is similar to that of insulin; therefore, corosolic acid is also known as phytoinsulin. The results of animal experiments show that corosolic acid has significant hypoglycemic effects on both normal rats and mice with hereditary diabetes. Clinical studies have found that the drug can regulate insulin and blood glucose levels in the body and has a significant weight loss tendency (0.908-1.816 Kg monthly average weight loss), which is slow and does not require dieting. Corosolic acid also has a variety of other biological activities, such as significant inhibition of TPA-induced inflammatory responses, and its anti-inflammatory effect is stronger than that of the commercially available anti-inflammatory drug indomethacin; it also has DNA polymerase inhibitory activity, and inhibits the growth of a variety of tumor cells.
