n-Butyllithium is a colorless or slightly yellow transparent liquid, stable at room temperature, and the lithium hydride is eliminated by heating. It decomposes in the presence of water, dissolves in hydrocarbons and ethers, forms complexes with ethers, amines and sulfides, and uses n-hexane as a solvent, with a density of 0.675g/ml. It is generally formulated into dilute solutions with molar concentrations ranging from 1.0M to 1.3M, and its mass percentage concentration is between 9% and 13%. It is widely used in drug intermediates, liquid crystal monomers, pesticides and organic catalytic reactions in the rubber industry.
