Milky white to light brown waxy solid with a slight fatty odor. Melting point 45 ºC. Disperse in hot water, dissolve in hot oil. Stable in different pH values and electrolyte solutions at room temperature. The HLB value is 6.7.

Span is a synthetic non-ionic emulsifier, which is prepared by partial esterification of sorbitol or sorbitan with food grade palmitic acid. It is light cream yellow to brownish yellow fine beads, flakes or hard waxy granules. Has a soft greasy smell and caramel sweetness.

Span is used as a dispersant for printing ink, emulsification and dispersant for various oil products, as an emulsion stabilizer during emulsion polymerization, as an effective additive for textile water-resistant composites, as an emulsifier in oil fields, and as a treatment agent for near wells.
