Yellow-brown opaque to translucent hard wax block or powder. The relative density is about 0.983, the melting point is 67-68°C, the iodine value is 37, and the refractive index is 1.4555. Soluble in chloroform, hot petroleum ether, toluene and alkali, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in water.
Pure natural wax, high gloss, good emulsifying performance, and quite good toughness, easy to release and prevent the paste from sweating. It is second only to carnauba wax in hardness and has a melting temperature of between 67 and 71. Like carnauba wax, candelilla wax is used to increase the hardness of the wax when mixed with other ingredients, but it does not harden as well as carnauba wax.
